Authentic Galician Empanada. A Product with History!

Helena Neira

The empanadas from Costumes Gastronómicas de Galicia are completely artisanal and handmade.

The flaky dough with which we make our empanadas sets us apart and achieves a more intense, artisanal, and authentic flavor, recalling the flavors of yesteryear from different areas of Galicia, both inland and mountain regions, or coastal.

We take great care with quality: from peeling the onion and its slow caramelization at low temperature, to the hand-sealing of the empanada.

The result is a traditional product of exquisite flavor and texture, because both the sofrito and the fillings are made with local raw materials and olive oil, to achieve a 100% natural flavor, like that of traditional bakeries in many Galician villages.

Although the origin of Galician empanada is as ancient as it is uncertain, it’s known that references to its preparation already existed in the 7th century, and from the 12th century it can be seen depicted in the famous Pórtico de la Gloria (Portico of Glory) that Master Mateo designed for the Cathedral of Santiago. In the portico, you can see the figure of a man condemned for gluttony whose infernal penance is to attempt to taste a bite of empanada.

Today you can enjoy our empanadas, without fear of condemnation, in almost any corner of our geography. Contact us.

You’ll be able to find it in many of the best bakeries, food shops, restaurants, etc., and purchase it directly, freshly baked or, on many occasions, have it delivered directly to your home.

Contact us and we’ll inform you about the nearest point of sale where you can buy authentic Galician empanada near you, or the closest Galician empanada home delivery service. Enjoy!
